Proverbs 17
17:5 "He who mocks the poor taunts his Maker; He who rejoices at calamity will not go unpunished." I never connected that to poke fun at others (especially the poor) is to taunt God, their Creator and mine. It is so easy to make fun of the eccentricities of others, and yet, how ungodly! Lord forgive us when we put ourselves above others in any way.
17:9 "He who conceals a transgression seeks love, But he who repeats a matter separates intimate friends." reminds me of 1 Peter 4:8 "Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins." and 1 Cor 13 - "love keeps no record of wrongs..." We always seem to keep a scorecard. We don't intend to, but when things get tough so often we get "historical" remembering the sins of others. That is Satanic! Only Satan will throw our sins before us after we've been forgiven. Satan loves to condemn us and make us feel bad; the Lord will convict us, so that we will turn from our sin. Love will protect others integrity, covering the sins of others not to deceive but so as to demonstrate forgiveness. When you are tempted to point out the failures of others, consider this verse, "He who conceals a transgression seeks love."

Proverbs 17:9
Good one Pastor Tye. I agree with you on that. God has separated our sins as far as the east is from the west. So to keep a "sin list" of others is definitely NOT of the Lord. I am reminded of Matthew 18:21-35 where Jesus gave a parable of the servant who owed his master money and the master relieved him of his debt, yet the servant threw his fellow servant in prison because he couldn't pay the debt owed to him. Then Jesus said... "Then his lord, after that he had called him said unto him, O wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee."
Wow, what a thought! When we speak poorly of others that we are speaking poorly of the Lord. Pastor Tye, I also have to agree that we do keep a score card. Well, this person did that to me so now I must either share it with others or not really forgive. Lord, I pray that we can be like you and separate our sins and other's as far as the east is from the west. Help us to have true forgiving hearts and not keep those score cards. Help us to take every thought captive and not replay the hurt that others have caused us. Lord, let us seek Your face today.
By-the-way, happy birthday Pastor Tye.

Pro 17:5 He who mocks the poor taunts his Maker; He who rejoices at calamity will not go unpunished...Sometimes I have to remind myself that God loves all people! This includes the homeless, drug addicts , alcoholics, those in jail etc. etc. We were once just as lost as some of them are.
Pro 17:17 A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity... A good reminder! It is hard to love at all times but we must try.
Pro 17:28 Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is considered wise; When he closes his lips, he is {considered} prudent...
WOW! I wish I would follow this Proverb more often! Just to listen and learn from others who might be wiser or have more experience than us in certain situations is priceless. How many times have we spoken, only to realize we didn't have a clue! God Bless Church Family---MG
I sat with my kids and taught them Proverbs 17:5. Samantha had shared with me that she was being teased and I felt that this was a verse that she could share with the person teasing her. This verse really weighed on my heart and I pray that my children will remember it whether they are being teased or about to tease another.
