Proverbs 12
This proverb overturns what my mom told me, "Never call someone stupid." Throughout the proverbs Solomon has been pointing out the fool, but in verse one he actually calls someone "stupid." "Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, But he who hates reproof is stupid" (Prov 12:1). How hard it is to receive correction (we discussed this before).
Another great verse for this chapter is verse 4: "An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, But she who shames him is like rottenness in his bones. " I wish all wives could understand the power of this verse. An excellent wife will honor her husband, make him look good (not point out his flaws). The wife that is always exposing her husband's sins and failures is like a cancer eating away at the soul of her husband. Every time she corrects him in front of others, or any time she makes a fool of herself, it reflects upon him. I am thankful that God has blessed me with an excellent wife, but she wasn't always that way. She was an excellent fiancee before that. ;)

OK, Pastor Tye, you took my words. My first thought was, he just called us (me) stupid. Yes, that is the way we look. Again, it is hard to be corrected. When I correct my children, their first words are BUT BUT... I know I can speak for me when I say that I do the same thing. But this is why I did it... We get our feathers ruffled and no one likes that. I think that with being in the book of James on Wed. nights and going through the book of Proverbs, we are getting a huge helping of humble pie. How often we say hurtful word. I will also share that for 7 years of my marriage, I was not a Christian. Instead of being a Proverbs 31 woman, I was the second part of Proverbs 4. I WAS rottenness to my husbands bones. I am not sure about the rest of you, but the Lord is speaking LOUD and CLEAR to me. Lord, help me. Before I speak, help me to check those words. Help me to remember Ephsians 4:29-32, let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edificaion, that it may impart grace to the hearers. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor and evil speaking be put away from you with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.
Another chapter on the differences between the wicked and the righteous. The Lord rewards hard work and diligence, v11 but he who chases fantasies lacks judgment. So many are looking for a way to make easy money. We are not to hope and wait for something to drop into our laps to better us. We are to be planning and then working hard to achieve our goals, not sitting around daydreaming about what we would like, nor would the Lord like for us to be focused on something that is unrealistic- it will only breed discontent. another verse that spoke to me v18 Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. I am a very sensitive person and there are times when someone will speak reckless words into my life and cut into my heart. They are unaware that they hurt me. I am sure there are times I say things that pierce others. Our tongues are such trouble. there are times I wish I could glue my mouth shut. I want my words to bring peace and healing to others. Lord, help me to bring encouragement through my words, laughter, joy, always loving and lead by the spirit. I want to be your ambassador and say only what you put on my heart. And Lord, help me to know what to do with the words others speak to me that are damaging. To bring them to you and leave them with you, not to stumble over them or hold hurt and a record of those things. Lord, what you say matters. Every spoken word, let me weigh it against your word. Put your words in my heart for others that bring life.
Let's start with a praise!
Pro 12:4 An excellent wife is the crown of her husband... Lord I thank you every day for giving me a wife who loves me and who walks in your ways.
Pro 12:7 The wicked are overthrown and are no more, But the house of the righteous will stand... When I read this I think of when we will be safe in Heaven with our Father.
Pro 12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But a wise man is he who listens to counsel...
This one hurts! I often think I have all the answers and don't need anyone's help or advice.
Pro 12:22 Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, But those who deal faithfully are His delight... I pray daily that I would honor the Lord by being truthful.
Lord I thank you for all you have done in my life and pray that you would continue to shape and mold me into the man that you want me to be. Help me to withstand Satans lies and traps and to focus on you and your promises...MG
